Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) Elementary First Aid Course (STCW)

Course Duration: 1 Day

This course is designed to give essential First Aid knowledge to all seafarers. Approval is MCA to STCW 95, A-V1/1-3. The course will equip students with the skills and knowledge to be able to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency onboard.

The level of knowledge gained will be sufficient to enable the seafarer to take immediate action in the case of injury or illness.

• Protecting the casualty and first aider from further risks
• Basic Life Support and CPR
• Use of an AED
• Control of bleeding
• Shock management
• Treatment of burns and scalds.
• Use of bandages and other contents of a basic first aid kit
• Transportation of a casualty to safety
• The unconscious casualty
• Drowning
• Shock
• Haemorrhage control
• Burns
• Electrical Shock
• Catastrophic Haemorrhage First Aid Kits
