Qualsafe First Response Emergency Care (FREC4)

Course Duration: 5 Days

The QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised Prehospital care qualification specifically designed for those looking to progress their career within the NHS or private ambulance services as an emergency care assistant, intermediate ambulance practitioner, event medical provider, associate practitioner or healthcare assistant. It is also ideal for those who are looking to work within specialist roles in the military, police and fire services.
Part of the course will be classroom based but with a very high content of practical. Some of the practical elements and scenarios will be conducted outside in a variety of terrain as we want you to be confident and competent in all weathers if you need to apply your prehospital skills.


Course Overview
Fulfilling the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework, this qualification provides learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to be able to deal with a wide range of Prehospital care emergencies, such as: major incidents, fracture immobilisation, sick and injured children, mental health issues and more.


Assessment Methods
3 x Practical assessments, 2 x Skills tests, 3 x Learner workbooks and 2 x Invigilated exams.
There are three work books to be completed post-course. We will offer support after the qualification to enable the learner to complete the work books: this is included in the course fee.
Unit 1: First Response Emergency Care Assessment Skills and Medical Gases
Unit 2: First Response Emergency Care Trauma Life Support
Unit 3: First Response Emergency Care and Assisting Advanced Procedures
There are 10 practical assessments/skills tests for this qualification to the FREC Level 4 standard:
• Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Child cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Management of fractures
• Electrocardiogram recognition
• Assisting advanced procedures
• Airway management
• Immobilisation and extrication equipment
• Patient assessment
• Thoracic trauma and assessment
